COFSA

Implementation

CoFSA members pioneer the integration of consciousness approaches and practices into food systems, through a global Portfolio of Interventions, supported by an Incubator, including the delivery of trainings, coaching and facilitation services, backed by research and learning frameworks.

Interventions are led by members, who collaborate to develop and implement pilots and prototypes, with a commitment to share learning with the Alliance. The role of the Secretariat is to advise on the design and support members to form partnerships, access tools and expertise, and share lessons learnt through the community.

CoFSA Areas of Interventions

CoFSA Interventions focus on working with governments, companies, farmers and development practitioners to support food systems transformation across three main areas:

Food Systems Policy and Pathways

  • Food Policy Reform: to improve the quality of interaction of policy-makers, and to support them in designing policies that integrate a more ‘compassionate’ and systemic approach.
  • Multi-stakeholder Dialogues: to create safe, connecting, and transformative spaces for conscious multi-stakeholder dialogues in food systems contexts.

Sustainable Landscapes

  • Conscious Farming and Local Community Development: to improve the wellbeing and resilience of farmers and their communities, and help them cultivate regenerative mindsets and agricultural practices.
  • Revitalizing and Strengthening Traditional Wisdom: to promote traditional cultural practices and knowledge that support regenerative food systems

Supply Chain Transformation

  • Cultural Transformation of Organizations: to support the cultivation of regenerative mindsets, values and skills that catalyze supply chain transformation.
  • Conscious Consumption: to support the adoption of more healthy, sustainable and local diets, and strengthen traditional food cultures.

For more information on these areas of interventions and to read practical examples, please see the CoFSA Rationale for Action report (Section III) and the Collection of Case Studies.

CoFSA’s principle of cultivating inner capacities emphasizes the need for context-specific and culturally relevant interventions, founded on respect and equity, as well as awareness of power dynamics. These interventions should be supported by a diversity of evidence and knowledge.

The Conscious Food Incubator

The Conscious Food Incubator supports members to implement conscious food interventions through prototyping and testing different ways of considering and cultivating inner capacities of all involved in transforming food systems.

In July 2023, we are launching a first Call for Proposals to support the design and implementation of some CoFSA interventions led by members.

CoFSA Call for Proposals

The CoFSA Call for Proposals intends to support the development of strategic, innovative ideas and solutions to scale up and accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, through transformation of food systems which is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus of this Call for Proposals on the cultivation of inner capacities for regenerative food systems constitutes a new field of practice which requires testing and innovation to identify, develop and nurture potentially transformative solutions.

Through this first round of Call for Proposals for the Conscious Food Incubator, UNDP will fund approximately four pilot projects of up to US $20,000.

Learning Journeys & Trainings

CoFSA offers  a wide range of trainings delivered by its members in a variety of consciousness approaches and practices, including compassion, nature connection, somatic bodywork, emotional awareness, non-violent communication, mindfulness and self-reflection. Practices are tailored to specific audiences in the context of food systems transformation.

Conscious Food Systems Leadership Program

The Alliance is developing a Conscious Food Systems Leadership Program, to support food and agriculture stakeholders to cultivate their inner capacities for activating systemic change and regeneration. This CoFSA introductory program will introduce participants to consciousness approaches and practices offered by CoFSA and enable  participants to reflect on and explore how to bring these approaches into their work and organizations to support food systems transformation. This blended learning program combines 6 live online modules with collaborative learning on a social learning platform. The program is in development with a pilot delivery planned for Q2 of 2023.

Local Leadership for Regenerative Food Systems

In collaboration with CoFSA’s global Network of Local Hubs, the Alliance is exploring the development of a globally distributed learning curriculum, leveraging the network, to facilitate an equitable exchange of knowledge and experience for food systems practitioners of diverse backgrounds to develop the inner capacities needed to build regenerative and conscious food systems at grassroots level. The program will be built of a series of dynamically interlinked modules offered both online and facilitated at site-based practice centres in locations around the world. The curriculum development and design will be led by Schumacher College.
