“Being a farmer gives you the opportunity to realize we are part of the land, and not its owner. We are part of something bigger called Mother Earth!”
by Maria Clara Piedrahita, Farmer
Why are we doing this?
The Conscious Food Systems Alliance has prioritized farmers’ wellbeing and psychological resilience because this topic is receiving limited attention, although it is impossible to build healthy and resilient food systems if farmers—the heart of our food systems—are not well. We all have a role to play: experience shows that farmers are strong when they are supported by strong communities.
Our initial exploration of this theme has also revealed that farming practices that work in harmony with Nature also support farmers’ wellbeing, inspiring us to deepen exchanges on “the inner dimension of agroecology”.
Our journey
This area of work started in July 2023, through a participatory dialogue that engaged farmers, support organizations, and concerned consumers. We delved deeper into what we can do to support farmers through an in-depth session with inspiring case studies, a “town hall” meeting on specific themes and an experience sharing session on farmers’ dialogues.
